The Orchestra also boasts another important record, being able to boast of having an average age of its members among the lowest in its field, a title that gives the measure of how diligent the foundation is in promoting young musicians and emerging talents. Since 2003 he has participated in the Italian Song Festival organized by the RAI in Sanremo and accompanies the artists who for years have been treading the stage of the most famous Italian musical event.
Every year the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra renews its appointments with great music with a series of concerts (more than 100 a year) which, in addition to substantially increasing the level of cultural interest of the city of Sanremo, attract people from all over the region classic fans and more. The great versatility that distinguishes it allows it to expand its repertoire ranging from baroque and classical up to modern and even contemporary, from Vivaldi to Penderecki, from Monteverdi to Ligeti, from the great composers of the past to the artists of today.
The Foundation is based in Sanremo, in Villa Zirio . The main residence of the performances of the Symphony is the Opera Theater of the Casino of Sanremo , but occasionally concerts are also performed in the hall of the Central Theater. During the summer the Orchestra moves outdoors, at the foot of the magnificent Villa Ormond , where the beauty of the music can best blend with the architectural splendor that so distinguishes the villas, parks and gardens of Sanremo.
From the first January 2010, Maestro Bruno Santori, who from the beginning of 2011 will also invest the position of Artistic Director, following in the footsteps of Roberto Hazon, Alberto Zedda and Marzio Conti. During the long life of the foundation the most varied names of such prestige and international fame have trod the stage of the Symphony that a simple list is more than enough.
Among the conductors we cannot forget the participation of Sir John Barbirolli, Daniel Oren, Riccardo Chailly, Daniele Gatti, Piero Bellugi, Yuri Ahronovich, Will Humburg, Arthur Fagen and many others. Among the solo musicians worthy of mention are the pianists Lazar Berman, Roberto Cappello, Aldo Ciccolini, Andreij Gavrilov, Mikhail Rudy; the violinists Salvatore Accardo, Uto Ughi, Igor Oistrakh, Zino Francescatti, Shlomo Mintz, Boris Belkin, Domenico Nordio; the flutists Severino Gazzelloni and Jean-Pierre Rampal, and last but not least the cellist and conductor Enrico Dindo who from 2007 to 2009 also held the position of Permanent Director. Among the items, the sample of collaborations includes other personalities of the caliber of Raina Kabaivanska, Katia Ricciarelli and Mario del Monaco.
The Orchestra also carries out collaborations and cooperations with some of the most illustrious European musical institutions, including the Society of Concerts of Milan, the Society of the Quartet of Vercelli, the International Music Festival of Menton, the International Festival of Cervo, the International Sacred Music Festival of Monte Carlo, the International Festival of the Principality of Andorra in honor of the great classical guitarist Narciso Yepes, the Festival d’Eté in Nice, the International Antibes Generation Virtuoses Festival, and with the renowned Palau della Musica in Barcelona, of which it hosted the young instrumentalists. Furthermore, since 2007 she has become the founder and organizer of her own event, the International Baroque Music Festival, which, now in its fourth edition, is financed and supported by the regional institution and still considered by the press to be the best review. summer of Liguria, a title for which she won an award, conferred on her by the newspaper “La Stampa”.
The summer performances of the Symphony were awarded the recognition of “Best event in the province” and honored with the Festivalmare Award by the same newspaper, which expressed itself in this regard: “Historical protagonist of the Italian music scene, the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra has find momentum and vitality by proposing a series of initiatives that characterized the summer: the baroque music festival at the Madonna della Costa , the aperitif-concerts in the Atrium of Palazzo Borea d’Olmo and a large cycle of executions in the hinterland ”.
There are frequent trips to Italy and abroad, and the Symphony has seen itself as a protagonist in famous theaters such as the Teatro Regio in Parma, the Olimpico in Vicenza, the Rossini Theater in Pesaro, the Teatro Lirico in Milan, the famous Sala Verdi of the Milan Conservatory and the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome. In 2003, in the context of a majestic tour through (among other) cities such as Venice, Vienna and Prague, the Orchestra also visited St. Petersburg, on the occasion of the tricentenary of the city’s foundation, paying homage to it with a review of musical performances. The recording activity is also intense: in recent years 5 CDs have been recorded, the “Requiem” by Giuseppe Verdi, the “Requiem” and the “Great Mass in C minor” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the “A night’s dream of mid-summer ”, incidental music by Felix Mendelssohn for the famous play by Shakespeare, and, for Naxos, the“ Symphony in re and three overtures ”by Luigi Cherubini under the direction of Maestro Piero Bellugi.
